
Four customized Sine wave filters are now in operation at a customer in the mining industry in northern Sweden. Granitor Systems was commissioned to deliver a container solution for power distribution, where Tramo delivered Sine wave filters as part of the system. Sine wave filters supplied are used in pumps driven by frequency controlled (VFD) motors. High demands in this application led us to develop a customized solution.

The problem
Already during the design phase, Granitor realized that an inductor was not enough as the motor manufacturer had specified that a Sine wave filter was required and the cable length was 320m.
With a clear specification of requirements, both in terms of technical parameters and geographical location, Tramo’s technical team was able to develop the right solution.

The solution
With information on power requirements, rated voltage and power factor, the Sine wave filter could be dimensioned for the right current and according to the right characteristics. As space was limited, a joint decision was made to place the units outside the container itself. With the right IP rating together with a filter fan with an air flow of 12m³/h, the filter could be designed and optimized.
After commissioning, the frequency-controlled motors can be safely run & protected against
- Tension spikes
- bearing currents
- Switched sounds in the engine
This extends the service life and reduces the need for servicing. Losses in the engine are also drastically reduced, which means that most of the power is used instead of being dissipated as heat.
